365 | documenting daily life | maine and new orleans photographer

FebPics … what?

Remember when I said that personal work takes a back seat?  You can click here for a refresher.  And now you’re witnessing just how true that statement is.  Today is July 3, and it is hot and muggy.  Seems like a great time to post my February images, don’t you think?  😉

According to all the moments I’ve captured during February, I’m pretty sure I started in Maine and spent the better part of the month in New Orleans.  We enjoyed our sweet little granddaughters, partied Mardi Gras style with family and friends, started a knitting project went to the beach (that was definitely down south!), and even though the weather was on the chilly side in the Crescent City, it was nowhere near the cold New England was experiencing during the winter.

During this hot hot hot … hot …. spell, you may want to find some air conditioning.  Then take a look at the images that follow.  I recommend reviewing them  s l o w l y  so as to breathe in some of that coolness.  Enjoy!  As always, your feedback is welcome!  🙂

Personal Photo Project | maine and new orleans photographer

For those of you who know me, know that when I pick up my camera, I’m a very happy person.  I love my job, which isn’t a job at all because I have tons ‘o fun and meet some truly wonderful people.  I’m grateful for finding photography and for photography to have found me.   I’ve made this a business, and it’s a happy little business indeed!

But when I pick up my camera with no agenda, expectations and demands — when it’s just me, myself and my camera –my heart sings.   Lllllaaaaaaaaaa …. Can you hear it???!!!  THIS!  This is what fills my soul, feeds my creativity, allows me to observe, to look at seemingly meaningless things in a whole different way, and capture those moments — just for me.   It’s crazy good and I love it!

I just don’t do it enough.

2017: Project 52

So last year I participated in a Project 52 … that is, making and posting one personal photo per week …. which got me shooting more than I might have otherwise.  It was overall very fun, challenging,  fulfilling, and oh so pleasing to see the final 52 — my year — in its final form.  It’s worth noting that I do have one exception — week 48.  Well, that week was incredibly sad because we said goodbye to a man I have loved dearly for almost my whole life and my focus was not on making photographs, but rather on making a slideshow of his life to share with family and friends.  However, you will see his handsome and smiling face still added to Week 48 — a photograph I took when he was inducted into the Chevrus Hall of Fame a few years back.  It just feels right.

Before I share with you my Final 52, let me tell you what I’m doing for 2018….. any guesses?  Yup … a 365!!!  Stay tuned as I’ll share some of those throughout the year.

Without further ado …..  My 2017 week by week…

yarmouth, maine family photographer | a special celebration

turning 90 and surrounded by love

I met this woman years ago at a Seadogs baseball game that was also a fundraising event for ALS.   From the first time we said hello, I really really liked her.  You know how that happens … that instant connection and that instant fondness.   I photographed a family wedding for her not too long after we met, and as the years went by, every now and again we’d touch base.  This last time we communicated it was about photographing her and her extended family in celebration of her  sweet mother’s 90th birthday.  90!!  How wonderful is that???  The party would be held on the fourth of July in her mom’s backyard.

It was a delight to spend an hour with these folks and be a part of a very special birthday for a very lovely lady.

The advantage of being 90 is that there are a lot of people to love.
